Rate means the tariff for using something. This cost could be for a hotel room, or an insurance rate. It could also be the rate for using a car park. 4. Charge usually refers to an additional cost to cover expenses. for example, many restaurants apply a cover charge of 15% to pay a tip to the waiter. It could also be a processing or handling charge, such as when you post a letter by recorded delivery, or when you oder something online and it is shipped to your house. 5. A toll is the cost referred to when using certain types of roads, especially free ways. This is a charge made for the priviledge of using the road. The same applies also for crossing some bridges,
